Dr. H. Courtney Hodges is a CPRIT Scholar and Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). His laboratory focuses on chromatin biology, cancer epigenetics, and the development of new technologies.

Dr. Hodges trained in the laboratory of Dr. Carlos Bustamante at U.C. Berkeley, a pioneer in single-molecule manipulation and microscopy. Here, Dr. Hodges’ work enabled real-time tracking of individual RNA polymerase 2 complexes as they performed transcription of nucleosomal DNA templates. His work revealed the dynamic molecular-scale mechanisms used by these polymerases to overcome the barrier of an individual nucleosome during transcription elongation.
