Gary Hon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and he is a member of the Cecil H. and Ida Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences. Dr. Hon studied computer science and molecular biology as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley. As a graduate student under the direction of Dr. Bing Ren at the University of California, San Diego, he pioneered the use of epigenetic signatures to annotate regulatory elements in mammalian cells. Continuing his post-doctoral studies in Dr. Ren’s laboratory, Dr. Hon examined the dynamic epigenetic nature of regulatory elements in developmental and disease contexts.
