Dr. Hamid Mirzaei is an accomplished analytical chemist with extensive training in systems biology.  He was recruited to join the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle where he used the power of quantitative proteomics to decipher complex cell regulatory mechanisms such as transcription factor mediated gene regulation and protein ubiquitination.

Dr. Mirzaei joined the lab of Dr. Mohammad Behforouz, a George and Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, in August 1999 to study Synthetic Organic Chemistry at Ball State University. His research efforts there were focused on total synthesis of the water soluble analogs of the anticancer agent Lavendomycine. After finishing his master’s degree he moved to Purdue University, one of the leading institutes in mass spectrometry research, to pursue his career in Analytical Chemistry. He received his PhD in Bioanalytical Chemistry in August 2005, under the supervision of J. H. Law Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Dr. Fred Regnier.
