Dr. Mazur’s long-term career goal is to lead a productive academic research group to systematically investigate fundamental aspects of cancer biology and develop new therapeutic and diagnostic strategies while mentoring the next generation of dedicated scientists. The goal of his research is to identify and characterize the signaling networks essential to the development of pancreatic cancer, one of the most lethal human diseases. Pancreatic cancer mortality rates have remained virtually equal to incidence rates over the past few decades and effective treatment remains one of the field’s major clinical challenges.
Dr. Mazur joins The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Experimental Radiation Oncology to systematically study the molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic cancer development and drug resistance. His main objective is to identify novel therapeutic targets in pancreatic cancer to guide the development of new efficacious drugs and treatment approaches in cancer patients.
