Dr. Traver Hart is a computational systems biologist and a native Texan who has come home to join MD Anderson. He has taken a decidedly nonlinear path to cancer research: just for starters, as an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin, he majored in Middle Eastern Studies. He has served as a political and military analyst in Washington, DC, as a dotcom entrepreneur in northern Virginia and Austin, as a technology consultant in Puerto Rico, and finally as senior product manager of a mid-size telecommunications company. When "big data" systems biology was born, he turned his focus to life sciences research, where he believes he has found his calling.
