Dr. Kelly’s application was selected after an institution-wide search for candidates who possess the requisite qualifications for this award. The Department of Medicine and its Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology and NCI-designated Mays Cancer Center (MCC) at UT Health San Antonio are firmly committed to Dr. Kelly’s professional and scientific advancement. As a junior clinical faculty, Dr. Kelly has accrued an impressive track record in neuro-oncology and biomarker-directed glioblastoma research. His career development plan emphasizes both didactic study, through the pursuit of a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and Translational Science, and mechanistic investigations to build on his already extensive laboratory experience in order to help him succeed as an independent researcher. In pursuit of this goal, Dr. Kelly has assembled a world-class mentorship committee consisting of Drs. Andrew Brenner, a senior neuro-oncologist, and Tyler Curiel, a leading cancer researcher in the field of immunology. With their guidance, Dr. Kelly has devised an ambitious research and career advancement plan that will take advantage of the exceptional core facilities and collaborative opportunities available in the MCC. The proposed studies will test Sacitizumab, a novel antibody drug conjugate targeting the epithelial glycoprotein Trop2, in the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma. Robust biomarker analysis, both molecular and radiographic, will allow the planned phase II study to make significant contributions in ascertaining the efficacy of Sacitizumab in the treatment of glioblastoma and elucidating its mechanism of action.
