Summary of Goals and Objectives

A central goal of my future research is to discover how aging triggers tumor onset in the regenerating intestine. Age-related epithelial tumorigenesis is a complex and dynamic process, consisting of three major stages: initiation, progression, and metastasis. Accumulating evidence suggests that tumor initiation is not only due to cell intrinsic changes, such as age-related accumulated oncogenic mutations, but also can be triggered by tissue microenvironment changes, such as chronic inflammation.
